Adopt A Tiger Shark

As a focus, in their final year before graduating, our 2021 College Captains took action to see a change in the world in which we all live.

澳门平特论坛 Captains of 2021, Levi and Anika, along with Vice Captains Gomae and Jennifer chose the theme 'Ocean Awareness and Pollution' as their focus for the 2021 school year, and they completely dedicated themselves to their cause of raising awareness of the plight of our oceans.

Their primary goal was to raise enough funds to purchase a satellite tag in order to adopt our very own Tiger Shark through the . The many exciting initiatives and activities they coordinated saw them achieve this goal, resulting in the introduction of Saki (pronounced Sah-Kee) to our school community. Saki was named by Pastor Adam, after 'Sak', the word for shark in Torres Strait Creole.

Saki is a 4.1m female and is the largest Tiger Shark ever tagged in the Great Barrier Reef. She was tagged by researchers on the 5th May 2021 in Repulse Bay in the Whitsunday Islands.

Thank you to the , we are able to follow Saki's movements.

A big thank you to the team at Biopixel Oceans Foundation for their support in helping us adopt Saki, and also James Cook University Cairns Campus who partner with Biopixel in conducting this research.
